Today I went on board the MV Doulos MySpace, the world's oldest active ocean-faring passenger ship and it has a Guinness World Record to prove it. It was first constructed in 1914 thus making it about 94-95 years old!MySpace It is docked at Vivo City Berth, Singapore until today, 26 December 2009. That's right I visited it on it's last day in Singapore. Admission is free and going up the ship was fun yet scary, instead of the conventional steps they had these steps that were curved like a ladder except with no gaps in between ( I don't blame you if you don't get it as it's very hard to describe it, this is the best i can do), what made it scary was that I am afraid of heights and the "staircase" was shaking when i was climbing aboard! Plus it was drizzling ( so much for "wet" post-Christmas).

There we were directed into the cabin for kids to play games, I obliviously did not take part and just went forward deeper into the ship. There is a limited part of the ship you could visit for free, guided tours are S$10 for adults and S$5 for children if you want venture deeper into the ship. I for one being confused as to where the book sale (yes book sale...) was held nearly wandered to the part of the ship you were supposed to pay to enter!MySpace

Anyway, minor misadventures aside, the main reason I wanted to get on the ship was the International Book Sale they were having (heheMySpace) on the top deck. I was expecting to burn a hole in my pocket and spend some of my hard saved savings but in the end I only spent S$4 there, Key chain S$1 x 3 + Ice cream S$0.50 x 2 (me and my bro), i don't know whether to be happy or sad!MySpace I wasn't interested in many of the books there, most were non-friction, christian books, Kids books, lifestyle books and Cookbooks. I was expecting more books like Agatha Christie or Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and more " mature" books but as a consolation i found Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books!MySpace

Anyway it was a fun and interesting experience too bad they are going to scrap the ship by the and of this yearMySpace as it was getting too expensive to maintain so it can be considered a white elephant, they also were slashing prices, especially for souvenirs, like crazy as much as 50% but postcards were reduced by 90%, however, they were S$1 to begin with so it wouldn't really count as a discount as S$1 per postcard sounds like a ripoff.
I might upload the pictures tomorrow as it is getting late and for some reason it's taking very long to upload the images. Oh yeah, I decided to stop the video of the day segment temporarily as my blog is taking longer to load so no video of the day,i might put one every now and then, so as to whether I should stop putting videos on my blog altogether please comment on the Cbox!
